The house has high ceilings and is charmingly decorated with Caribbean style furnishings and art. Perfect for a honeymooning couple or a small family, the Round House has a queen bed and a sleeping loft (with skylight) which is ideal for up to 3 children.
There is a private thatched beach cabana and freshwater outdoor shower. There is a full kitchen with handcrafted coral countertops and backlit sea glass that adds a truly Bahamian feel.
This rustic house is built on a 14-acre estate stretching across to the ocean on the other side of the island. The house is surrounded by lush plants and fragrant tropical flowers which you can enjoy from the outdoor shower on the back deck overlooking the garden.
You will be able to hear the gentle waves on the beach just 20 yards away and awake to the whisper of the breeze rustling through the coconut trees. You can relax on the 360-degree deck, private beach or in the thatched cabana. There is BBQ area overlooking the water and outdoor dining areas on the deck, in the garden and on the beach.
The house has split-level air conditioning and a fully equipped new kitchen including a dishwasher, stove, large fridge, microwave, coffee maker, blender etc. There is free wireless Internet.

Snorkel or kayak for hours right in front of the house or explore the island’s many beautiful and untouched beaches, cliffs, caves, and quaint villages or simply enjoy a book in the hammock or in a cabana. Catch your own lobster and feast on them while watching the full moon rise out of the ocean.

The McKinney family has lived in The Bahamas for generations. At 17 Doon was teaching school in a remote village in Botswana. She fell in love with the idea of living in a Round House. When she returned to The Bahamas she decided to move from Nassau to the remote and untouched island of Eleuthera and build her own round house. Everyone was a bit skeptical of this young woman clearing the land by herself and building a house with no electricity, running water, car or a telephone.
Camping out every night on the site helped her develop an intense connection with the land and gave her the opportunity to build a house that was perfect for the location. She decided to build 11-foot arches on all five sides of the house to allow the ocean breeze to sweep into the house. She nestled the house among coconut trees and Casuarina trees where you can hear the sound of the wind in the trees and the waves on the beach. She surrounded the house with a garden full of beautiful hibiscus, oleander, seagrape, coconuts and, other native flowers and trees.
It was a challenge for a woman with limited carpentry skills to clear the land and almost single-handedly build a house- having never built so much as a box. Doon persevered and used creativity to overcome many of the obstacles she encountered. While still working on the building of the house Doon married and had 2 daughters (Casuarina and Taja)- the youngest was born right in the Round House before the midwife even found her way out to the house.

Ideal location right on a beautiful very private beach 1.5 miles NE of Governors Harbour. Directly north (5 min walk) from French Leave beach and 5 mins walk south of Twin Coves beach.
Eleuthera’s a long, thin island – 110 miles long but, at its widest, only 2 miles across. It’s blessed with an abundance of spectacular beaches and perpetuatal summer – winter highs are in the mid 70’s, summer highs in the mid to upper 80’s.
Generally, Eleuthera is 3-4 degrees cooler than Florida, with constant sea breezes. Eleuthera is unusual in that it is relatively hilly, reaching an elevation of 100 feet, much more than most of the other Bahamian islands.
With a population of about 8,000, Eleuthera, unlike Nassau, does not have “big city” feel. Bahamians are known to be some of the warmest and most friendly anywhere. Governor’s Harbour, the capital, is located at the mid-point of the island and has small town charm and is a great jumping off point for exploring both north and south Eleuthera. The island is a nature lovers paradise.

The Round House is a quaint house, perfect for couples or small groups looking for an island getaway. The house is beautifully secluded, but not too far from the heart of Governor's Harbour. The beach is perfect for lounging and kayaking!
I would highly recommend this location to anyone looking to visit Eleuthera.

We will return!!
My partner and I are both nurses who worked non stop through the pandemic. Having been fully vaccinated we felt safe to travel, given the right circumstances. The Roundhouse at Casuarina Bay on Eleuthera met all of our criteria to allow us to feel safe. The Roundhouse is situated on a remote piece of property with the MOST exquisite beach for relaxation and snorkeling right there! An exclusive use cabana/yoga deck was perfect for lounging in the shade when a break from the sun was needed. A 10 minute walk north or south brings you to two other GORGEOUS beaches with very few people on them. The Roundhouse was clean and had anything we could possibly need. The bed was extremely comfortable and the cross breeze through the cottage while we slept was amazing. Doon and Taja were wonderful and responsive hosts in the planning process and then while we were there.
While at the Roundhouse we felt worlds away from people, yet a five to ten minute drive brought us into the small town and a choice of a couple of restaurants and local markets. We did a couple of trips to other destinations on the island but we truly felt that by some luck and research we landed in the perfect location at Casuarina Bay

What a slice of heaven this lovely round house is! My husband and I planned our babymoon here and it could not have been more perfect. The house was equipped with everything we needed and it was a dream to have all the windows open and hear the ocean at night. Doon/ Taja were wonderful hosts and very accommodating. Each beach was private and better than the last - we adventured on Eleuthera a ton, but you could spend a week chilling out in the house and on their beach. Sandy Road to get there and very private. We LOVED it. Will be back soon <3

My wife and I had a fun and relaxing visit to the Round House. We rented a car from our host, which was very convenient. She was super nice and helpful. The surroundings are great. We snorkeled, wandered the beaches and local roads and explored all of the local restaurants. The house is very comfortable for 2, has A/C, a full size fridge and a great porch to relax and watch the ocean. The beach, and other nearby beaches, were pretty empty so you feel like you are alone. The local restaurants (Pascals, French Leave, Bacchus, Buccaneer and La Bougainvillea were all unique and different.

We spent a fantastic week in The Roundhouse at Causarina Bay! It was the perfect location to unwind and relax. We visited several beaches on both sides of the Island. Not one disappointed! Governors Harbour is the best location for heading north or south for day excursions.
The Roundhouse is open & airy & comfortable & welcoming. The bed was very comfy! My favorite was the outdoor shower after hanging on the beach! There is a deck around the entire house with different lounge chairs & a table. Full kitchen if you want to cook.
The grounds are beautiful. The view of the ocean from right outside the front door is amazing. Just walk across the sand road to your own private beach hut with lounge chairs & walk down a few steps to the beach. It was everything we wanted and more!
Doon brought us some fruit from her trees, hibiscus, a fresh coconut and tips on local places. She is amazing! We know we will be back, hopefully in the near future!
