The Beachfront House at Casuarina bay was designed and built to savor the incredible natural unspoiled beauty of Eleuthera. It is only 50 feet from its own beautiful sand beach, so wherever you are in the house you have breathtaking views in all directions. This home is ideal for indoor/outdoor living.
To the east, you see the turquoise ocean and glistening beach. Looking to the west your eyes rest on untouched green hills and colorful Caribbean sunsets. At night the brilliance of the stars and moon is unforgettable.
This hand-crafted cedar house sleeps 6, with 3 bedrooms (1 king, 1 queen, 2 twins that can be converted to a king (with A/C in the bedroom), 2 bathrooms, living and dining room, kitchen and decks on 3 sides plus a private balcony on the second floor overlooking the ocean. There are indoor and outdoor kitchens and dining areas.
The house is built on a 14-acre estate stretching across the island to the ocean on the other side of the island. The property is filled with lush plants and fragrant tropical flowers. You can relax on our many decks, private beach, or in the thatched cabana, where there is a freshwater shower.
There are two additional apartments (sleeps 2 guests each) on the ground level of the Beachfront house. These spaces, the “Sunset apartment” and "seahorse apartment" can be rented along with the beachfront house to add a 4th and 5th bedroom, 2 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, and living spaces. Alternatively, these apartments may be rented to other guests. The apartments have their own private entrances and do not share deck space with the Beachfront house so both are private from each other.

The McKinney family has lived in The Bahamas for generations. At 17 Doon was teaching school in a remote village in Botswana. She fell in love with the idea of living in a Round House. When she returned to The Bahamas she decided to move from Nassau to the remote and untouched island of Eleuthera and build her own round house. Everyone was a bit skeptical of this young woman clearing the land by herself and building a house with no electricity, running water, car or a telephone.
Camping out every night on the site helped her develop an intense connection with the land and gave her the opportunity to build a house that was perfect for the location. She decided to build 11-foot arches on all five sides of the house to allow the ocean breeze to sweep into the house. She nestled the house among coconut trees and Casuarina trees where you can hear the sound of the wind in the trees and the waves on the beach. She surrounded the house with a garden full of beautiful hibiscus, oleander, seagrape, coconuts and, other native flowers and trees.
It was a challenge for a woman with limited carpentry skills to clear the land and almost single-handedly build a house- having never built so much as a box. Doon persevered and used creativity to overcome many of the obstacles she encountered. While still working on the building of the house Doon married and had 2 daughters (Casuarina and Taja)- the youngest was born right in the Round House before the midwife even found her way out to the house.

Casaurina bay is ideally located between the pink sand French Leave beach (5mins walk south) and Twin Coves (5 mins walk north).
Eleuthera’s a long, thin island – 110 miles long but, at its widest, only 2 miles across. It’s blessed with an abundance of spectacular beaches and perpetuatal summer – winter highs are in the mid 70’s, summer highs in the mid to upper 80’s.
Generally, Eleuthera is 3-4 degrees cooler than Florida, with constant sea breezes. Eleuthera is unusual in that it is relatively hilly, reaching an elevation of 100 feet, much more than most of the other Bahamian islands.
With a population of about 8,000, Eleuthera, unlike Nassau, does not have “big city” feel. Bahamians are known to be some of the warmest and most friendly anywhere. Governor’s Harbour, the capital, is located at the mid-point of the island and has small town charm and is a great jumping off point for exploring both north and south Eleuthera. The island is a nature lovers paradise.

Just returned from a short stay at the beach house. Really loved the location as we enjoy snorkeling and there is a lot to see just offshore in front of the house. We spent half our time on the island under the cabana in front of the house hopping in and out of the ocean. Plenty of fish, occasional turtles, lots of sea fans, etc just in front of the cabana, and having the fresh water shower in the cabana was awesome.
- Location is very private, you feel like you're on your own beach. You can see one other house in the distance, and there is one other house on the property but we never saw the other guests and each of the rentals has it's own beach cabana that are nicely separated so they feel private. It's close to Govenor's Harbor, just a short drive on a sandy beach road. We didn't walk it in the heat as it would be a long walk but it is certainly walkable (about 1.5 miles or so).
- the home itself is eclectic and unique, very comfortable with everything you need. Beautiful views from all the rooms. There is AC in one of the bedrooms but not in the general living area. Since it's on the Atlantic side the trade winds provide nice cool breezes all day and night and there are plenty of ceiling fans as well. My wife is a light sleeper though so she would've been better off taking the room with the AC...I slept great with the breezes coming in through the open windows.
- owner Doon and daughter Taja were so nice and helpful. Doon was there to welcome us and show us the property and Taja was very responsive via e-mail.
Would definitely come back, highly recommended.

This is an extraordinary tropical home like none other we have experienced. The artwork, the architecture, like something out of a book. Swiss Family Robinson goes to the Bahamas! There can be no better locale, perched in paradise, overlooking the best beaches anywhere, pink sand and all--and all to ourselves! A secret hideaway from the civilized world, complete with internet (but why use it?). Please don't tell anyone about this Paradise Found

If you dream of going to sleep with the sound of the waves in your ears, and waking up with the sound of waves in your ears, this is ideal. It’s a little rustic, but you can’t go to sleep and wake up that way in a fancy condo.

We loved the location: very easy beach access and only a ten minute drive to town for supplies. We were a party of six, four adults and two children and the house worked perfectly for us. The cabana and shower right on the beach was ideal! The large deck around the house became a wonderful outdoor, additional room. We couldn't have been happier
