Mermaid Point ---An excellent choice in Eleuthera

I am almost in fear to give this property the rating that it justly deserves, for fear that it will be fully booked up the next time that we want to return to Eleuthera. The property was just as described, was very well appointed, clean, tastefully furnished and provided the desired privacy. It is definitely located in one of the nicest areas of Eleuthera.

Diane and Wayne were next door during our visit and were most helpful in insuring that we had a great stay and had all of the details, maps, and directions that we needed to make that happen.

my wife, daughter and I would definitely reurn to Eleuthera and especially to Mermaid point!

Regards,

Jeanne, Helena and Mike

There are still many interesting places on the island to explore. We look forward to seeing you again.

Fantastic !!!

We are a Swiss couple and stayed for 2 weeks at Mermaid Point. This was our 2nd trip to Eleuthera. The house is set at a perfect location on the Caribbean side of the island, which is calmer and more proteced from the wind. Beautiful Ten Bay Beach is just a 5 min walk away.

There are no words to truly describe this location - amazing, breathtaking, fantastic, peaceful, beautiful...perfect! The house was super well appointed and we were missing NOTHING! The kitchen has all the cooking equipment/utensils you'll need, we cooked all our meals rather than going out. We loved to sit on the porch enjoying the incredible view and the romantic sunsets. There are no-seeums around, but if you use a spray, it's no problem.

The location was near enough to Governor's Harbor so it was easy to buy groceries, but the house and beach are extremely private. Dianne and Wayne are lovely people and they can give all the information on the island.

We highly recommend this house, we wouldn't stay anywhere else on Eleuthera!

A week of blissful calm

I highly recommend visiting Eleuthera and staying at Mermaid Point. The view from the home is fabulous on all sides, the home is comfortable and well kept. Dianne and Wayne were wonderful hosts and took very good care of us. High points: kayaking along the cliffs lining the bay, jumping off Mermaid Point into the sea, dinner on the deck at sundown, guava duff at the bakery in Tarpum Bay, waves crashing through the natural arch on the Atlantic side of the island just north of the Glass Window, fresh sauces from the Island Farm, and the tower at the Levy nature preserve. Eleuthera is an amazing place, and Mermaid Point is a perfect base for explorations. Travel arrangements are not difficult if you know a few tricks - the people who live on Eleuthera are always willing to share information about flights, auto rentals, and where to eat and shop. Perfect if you want to get off the beaten path. We will be back!

Magnificant House ... and Beach

The house is quite magnificent and so is Ten Bay Beach. The photos on the HomeAway website give an accurate impression of the house. The main living/dining/kitchen is large, airy and comfortable, including a good working dishwasher and large cable TV. The kitchen is fully equipped. Large white curtains block the sun when necessary but allow plenty of light. The big deck is great.

You can walk to Ten Bay Beach in under five minutes, down the rocky road from the house. Or you can launch a kayak (that comes with the house) and paddle round the headland in about the same time. One time, a school of flying fish accompanied me. We visited the beach most days. Sometimes, we had the entire mile to ourselves. Occasionally, we shared the beach with a few other visitors. Being on the Caribbean side of the island, it was always calm. The weather during our January stay was a perfect 75 - 83 degrees during the day and a bit cooler at night.

A car is pretty much essential but it is easy to rent one at the airport. The nearest store is the Island Farm, well worth visiting and about three miles away. The main grocery stores are further away, in Governor's Harbour or in Rock Sound. The nearest restaurant is about five miles. Driving on Eleuthera is easy, except that you will be driving an American car on the left side of the road.

Downsides? Just two. From mid-afternoon, there are lots of no-see-ums and the main sliding doors on the living room have no screens. And the WiFi does work most of the time but ONLY if your computer is on a small desk in one corner of the living room. (The WiFi is located in the owner's house next door.)

This was our third visit to Eleuthera and our first stay in "Mermaid Point". It is a great house in a fabulous location. The owners, Wayne and Dianne, live in the house next door (and down the hill) and were unfailingly friendly and helpful. Eleuthera is as quietly delightful as ever. Quite a few places on the island are "closed for renovations". But there are two great on-the-beach restaurants (Tippy's and The Beach House) within a 15 minute drive. If you go, make sure to visit the Banks Road Deli for their fresh bread and croissants."

The screen had been repaired and could have been installed. Most people choose not to use the screens since the no-se-ums are small enough to go through the screens. Most guests use the A/C and keep windows closed. I only wish they had said something about the screens during their stay. They were lovely people and I hope to see them again.

Great price, gorgeous view, perfect get awa

Loved our stay. Has waterfront access for boating as well as short walk to the beach. Furnishings and decor fairly modern and well maintained facility. Owners live nearby and very accomodating as well as social. No needs went unmet and they were full of information about the island, as they have lived there for over 10 years. Owners were amenable to our party and barbeque with no rules about after hours noise or time restrictions.

The island is just 1.5 miles wide and has an "atlantic" side and a carribean side. The Atlantic side is more amenable to people who want to surf and be in wavy water. This residence is located on the carribean side. Our chidlren from age 8 months to 12 years were abel to play safely as though in an expansive, warm beautiful blue pool. This side is superior for sunbathing, beach walks, and family play. Great snorkeling and small caves in the volcanic type rock and beach is nearly private. We hardly saw anyone all week unless we sought them out.

No nearby walking distance restaurants or nightlife but if you want that, go to Nassau. This is the island and the spot if you want a gorgeous view every morning, full self service kitchen, nearby relaxation amenities. You come here to get away. Perhaps my one complaint is that the road to the beach is rocky and you can't walk barefoot, but this is typical of the area.

The personalized assistance, convenient beach location, splendid panoramic view, clean and upgraded accomodation, and close proximity to airport have made this our top choice of location to stay when we cann get in. Have returned 3 times!

Since Mermaid Point is secluded, we never heard a sound from their Barbeque Party.

They are always welcome and we are looking forward to their next stay.
