Great location, very nice house.
This is great little house centrally located on the island. More than adequate for 2 people. When we arrived there was soft music playing and all the ingredients for a nice tropical drink were waiting for us, including 2 cold beers in the fridge! Within 2 hours of our arrival my husband caught a large snapper right from the gazebo for dinner. We enjoyed using the kayaks and my husband frequently fished from both the kayak and the gazebo. The snorkeling wasn't great for us because the wind was often blowing from the West during our stay and the water was choppy but that's Mother Nature. On those days we travelled to the amazing beaches on the other side of the island. Ten Bay is close and we enjoyed walking there to catch the sunsets on most evenings.
The Wamplers are a very interesting couple. We enjoyed a drink with them on our last night there and met their girls, Daphne, Sassy, Martini and Olive. We enjoyed chatting with them and appreciated the information they shared regarding the island and how they ended up there.
The house is very private and the Wamplers are friendly but they aren't intrusive whatsoever. In fact we didn't even know they were home for most of the week.
The house has a decent supply of pantry items including seasonings, sugar, oil and some liquor. All paper products and soaps are provided. This is really nice because most grocery items are extremely expensive on the island and who wants to shop when you're on vacation? There are plenty of towels, including beach towels, and beach gear (chairs, umbrella, cooler, etc.) available to use.
Regarding the gnats and the wifi: We used bug spray once or twice but the wind kept the bugs away for most of the week. The wifi was only sketchy one day otherwise it worked fine. We only used it mostly to check the weather. We try to leave the technology at home on our vacations! There were more channels available on the tv than we have at home. It was nice for catching some ball games at night and getting my Walking Dead fix.
Eleuthera is a great place to visit if you're looking for a quiet, laid back vacation. The beaches are amazing and the people are very friendly and relaxed (nice change from the States). There is no traffic and we never felt unsafe. Renting a car couldn't be quicker or easier. Mermaid Point is a great place to stay if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful vacation.
