This house is perfect in every way!

We stayed at this property over New Years. We have stayed at many vrbo properties throughout the world, and I can honestly say it is the best we have found. We stayed at Desert Rose facing the Atlantic and the beach was perfect. We explored many beaches in Eleuthera and our backyard view was our favorite. The home was ideal for our family of five and we were lucky enough to meet the property owners who were first class in every way. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay perfect. We can’t say enough good things about the privacy and beauty of this property. We will refer all our friends and family! Thank you for the wonderful memories!

Great island scene for relaxing

We stayed at the larger property, further back from the beach. There are two cottages on this property, each has independent beach access and is well equipped for your stay. The smaller unit has an older vibe and better porches with beach views and a hammock. The larger unit has a gazebo in the garden. Beach is open and basically uninhabited.

Big benefits include: excellent AC for the nights and evenings - well equipped kitchen, good bbq access - lots of beach chairs and stray floaties etc - really beautiful bedspreads and nice sheets - the beach and water are fabulous, clear waters, interesting walks, snorkelable fishies, you can walk along the beach to Tippy's for a meal or drinks, and there are minor grocery spots along Banks road.

In Governor's Harbour are two grocery spots - we are loyal to Burrows whose owners we met - the Friday fish fry has great food (and lots of flies), ice for sale in town and decent restaurants for coffee (Da Perk) and food (Buccaneer etc). We did not go out for fancy dining - so I cannot comment on those spots. Remember to get cash. Everything needs cash, with USD exchangeable 1 to 1 to local currency.

The road access to the cottages is barely marked and pretty darn rough, but the main roads are good and there are sites to visit if you are the adventurous type. Use the GH airport, the others are a long road trip away.

Really amazing welcoming and engaged community of people in and around Governors Harbour.

Next time I think we will go for the smaller unit, but we would really enjoy bringing enough people to fill the two units and engage the whole property. It was a great relaxing vacation. SUV or 4-wheel necessary.

First Time to Eleuthera

This was our first trip to Eleuthera. We found the island to be very beautiful with lush greenery and beautiful ocean views! We also found the islanders to be very friendly and helpful. Marcia, the property manager was there to greet us on arrival and was very friendly, helpful and able to answer any questions we had. We stayed in the Monticello house for 11 days and our friends stayed at Dessert Rose for 8. The house is in a great location on the island, close enough to grocery stores and dining at Tippy’s or the Buccaneer. The well groomed gardens on the property were really enjoyable and relaxing. The beach was very clean with beautiful white sand and it was private. We especially loved the two cabanas right on the beach for us to spend our days. The house had all the amenities that we needed to cook in as well as plenty of place to relax and eat outdoors. If you are looking for luxurious accommodations, this is not it; however, we found it to be clean, comfortable and an enjoyable stay!

Trip of a Lifetime - We Will be Back!

Our family trip to Eleuthera was truly magnificent. Monticello was perfect for our family of four including two teenage daughters - it was big enough to allow our girls to have some space and independence. The proximity to the beach was a major highlight. My husband and I walked along the pristine beach every day all the way to a popular restaurant, Tippy's, and back - probably about 5-7 kms. We also spent time daily sitting on the back deck, and the kitchen and dining area was perfectly set up for meals eaten in.

Monticello is in an ideal location allowing frequent short drives into Governor's Harbour. We found great places to buy food nearby to cook ourselves, including Island Farm, Banks Road Deli, and a grocery store in Governor's Harbour. We also enjoyed the delicious food at nearby restaurants, with Tippy's being our favourite. We attended the Anchor Bay Fish Fry, attended by both locals and visitors.

One highlight was a day-trip to Lighthouse Point at the southern tip of Eleuthera where the Atlantic and Caribbean meet. Another was an afternoon spent on the beach at Monticello where our girls actually played at length with a dolphin that swam in to entertain us and our beach neighbours.

We can't wait to return!

Another great trip to Monticello

This was our 5th stay at Monticello - Garden of Light. We love staying there and this trip was another reminder of why it is so near and dear to us. Our caretaker Mrs. Clarke welcomed us with open arms upon our arrival and from there we had another awesome week in our favorite place on Earth, the beautiful island of Eleuthera.

The house is perfectly located to see all of the island from the north, all the way down to Lighthouse beach. Just minutes from Tippys and Governors Harbor there is plenty to keep us fed and well stocked for the trip, including Baccus fine foods, a great new addition to the island.

We loved starting our days on our very own beach, Poponi Beach, where I don't think we saw more than 3 people for a mile in either direction for the entire week. It was a great place to either start the day with a walk or swim or finish the day or even evening out with a cool beverage.

We loved the flexibility of the house to comfortably fit my wife and I and our 2 teenage kids, and later in the week another couple of friends joined us for the last few days of our stay. We fit perfectly in the house, as it is well equipped to handle as many as 6 people comfortably.

We enjoyed putting the grill to work after another great fishing trip with Tweedy out of Spanish Wells, where we hauled in several good sized tuna.

I can't say enough about how much we love Eleuthera and how well Garden of Light suits our needs for each of our trips. We love staying there as it provides everything you could want on a vacation; a beuatiful beach, privacy, and a well equipped house to let you enjoy your stay. We can't wait to come back.
