Great island scene for relaxing
We stayed at the larger property, further back from the beach. There are two cottages on this property, each has independent beach access and is well equipped for your stay. The smaller unit has an older vibe and better porches with beach views and a hammock. The larger unit has a gazebo in the garden. Beach is open and basically uninhabited.
Big benefits include: excellent AC for the nights and evenings - well equipped kitchen, good bbq access - lots of beach chairs and stray floaties etc - really beautiful bedspreads and nice sheets - the beach and water are fabulous, clear waters, interesting walks, snorkelable fishies, you can walk along the beach to Tippy's for a meal or drinks, and there are minor grocery spots along Banks road.
In Governor's Harbour are two grocery spots - we are loyal to Burrows whose owners we met - the Friday fish fry has great food (and lots of flies), ice for sale in town and decent restaurants for coffee (Da Perk) and food (Buccaneer etc). We did not go out for fancy dining - so I cannot comment on those spots. Remember to get cash. Everything needs cash, with USD exchangeable 1 to 1 to local currency.
The road access to the cottages is barely marked and pretty darn rough, but the main roads are good and there are sites to visit if you are the adventurous type. Use the GH airport, the others are a long road trip away.
Really amazing welcoming and engaged community of people in and around Governors Harbour.
Next time I think we will go for the smaller unit, but we would really enjoy bringing enough people to fill the two units and engage the whole property. It was a great relaxing vacation. SUV or 4-wheel necessary.
